Woman from Carthage injured after swerving to avoid deer in road

A woman from Carthage was injured this morning after she swerved to avoid a deer on the highway.

It happened around 6:25 this morning [Monday] on County Road 170 about 3 miles east of Carthage.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said 49-year-old Roberta J. Clayton swerved her southbound2017 Ford-1500 to avoid the animal.

She suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a Joplin hospital.
