The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is implementing the use of a program called OffenderWatch.
This program is the nation’s largest and most versatile sex offender registry monitoring and community notification resource for law enforcement.Delaware County Sheriff James Beck says more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies currently use the program, including Cherokee Nation.
The program will assist the sheriff’s office in tracking and ensuring compliance of registered sex offenders.
One feature of this program is if someone moves into the county who is a registered sex offender and the agency where they moved from used this program all the previous law enforcement information that was input into the system can be transferred.
Another important option for OffenderWatch is a mobile application called the Family Safety App.
The use of technology in today’s internet of things in tracking, solving and fighting crime is important.
Sheriff Beck as part of the agreement for OffenderWatch had all local police departments in the county included so they have the option to use the software at no cost to their agency.
